She was predeceased by: her parents, Jeannette Phillips and David D. Phillips; and her brother David Phillips of New Orleans, LA.. She is survived by: her husband Dr. Robert Starkenburg of Raleigh, NC; and her sons, Derek Starkenburg of Cary, NC and Justin Starkenburg of New York City, NY.. She is also survived by friends, as well as her beloved pets.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in her name to the ASPCA.
