He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Eugene Freed and Alice Ringler Freed; his son Joseph Richard Freed; his brother Michael F. Freed; and his sister-in-law Donna J. Joy.
He is survived by: his wife Sharon May Freed; his daughters, Marcy Freed-Abshire of Raleigh and Terri Leigh Herko (Howard) of Garner; his grandson Michael Abshire (Amanda Elbert) of Raleigh; his stepgrandson Bradley Herko (Megan Phillips) of Smithfield; his sister Carol Shaffer of Connellsville, PA; and his sisters-in-law, Nola Laughery of Scottdale, PA, Sandra Herman of Connellsville, PA and Marian Freed of Connellsville, PA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
