She is survived by: her sons, Ricky Coates (Sheila), Randy Coates (Emily) and Robert Coates (Pam); her grandchildren, Robert Coates (Erica), Danny Coates (Erica), Jeff Coates, Chris Coates (Kristen), Steven Coates (Bridget), Misty Coates, Ashley Coates, Taylor Coates (Frankie) and Rachael McLean (Stephen); and her brothers, Marvin Simpkins (Doris) and Marshall Simpkins (Barbara).

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1st 2026 from 10:15 AM to 11:00 AM at the Montlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park (2911 S Wilmington St, Raleigh, NC 27603). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 1st 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Thursday, October 1st 2026 from 12:00 PM to 12:15 PM at the same location.
