It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Nell Cooper Tyson (Raleigh, North Carolina), who passed away on April 14, 2026, at the age of 96, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Junius Obit Mooneyham and Ellen Brown Mooneyham; her significant other James Edward Tyson, Sr.; her siblings, Hazel Stallings, Lottie Mae Bagwell, Kathleen Cash, Marvin Mooneyham, Leslie Mooneyham and E. W. Mooneyham; and her grandmother Aye.
She is survived by: her daughters, Kathyrn Cooper Broughton (Al), Ann Cooper Byerly (Gary) and Susan Cooper Cole; her stepchildren, James Tyson, Jr., Bruce Tyson (Brenda) and Donna Tetrault (Burges); and her grandchildren, Jill Hopper (Lee), Alan Broughton (Hannah), Michael Byerly (Lynn), James Byerly (Kristi), Melissa Hudson (Rayford), Jonathan Cole, Stephanie Kidd (Gavin), Beverly Tyson (Rodney), Kathy Schmitt (Peter), Jimmy Tyson (Sawako), Katie Barber, Chris Barber (Elizabeth), Nathalie Marshall (Graham) and Will Tyson. She is also survived by 24 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
