He is survived by: his wife Valerie Scott Yates; his children, Kristen E. Yates and Mallory R. Yates-Lafon (Kurt); and his siblings, Joyce Brown and James Avery. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
