She was predeceased by: her parents, Jess Turner and Helen Turner; her husband Arnold Eugene "Gene" Walser; and her siblings, Harvey, Bobby, Larry and Phyllis Turner.

She is survived by: her sons, Mark (Susan Walser), David Walser and Dan (Laura Walser); and her grandchildren, Lauren (Kourosh Neshat), Lisa (Will Pridgen), Jennifer (Tony Lindemann), Kristin (Cory Hinton), Melissa (Jeremy Cook), Daniel (Caroline Walser), Erik (Elizabeth Walser) and Ryan Walser. She is also survived by great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Shirley's memory to Amedisys Hospice of Raleigh, whose compassion and care provided great comfort in her final days.
