He is survived by: his wife Becky Stath Smith; his sister Margie Birdwell; his children, Chris Smith and Stephanie Smith Hickey; his sons-in-law, Daniel Hickey (Deena Lilley) and John Lilley; his grandchildren, Drew Smith, Graham Smith (Ashley Smith), Jacob Smith (Sarah Grace Smith), Sarah Smith, Zachary Smith, Emma Gravitt, Zoe Gravitt Snyder (Ezekiel Gravitt Snyder), Claire Hickey, Georgia Lilley, Olivia Lilley and Walter Preston Lilley; his great grandchild Ellie Smith; his niece Tiffany Ybarra; Beth Smith.

Visitation was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church (5000 Lead Mine Rd, Raleigh, NC 27612). A prayer was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the same location. A funeral service was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
