He was predeceased by: his brother-in-law Jim Britt. He is survived by: his sister Patricia Smith Britt; his children, Cameron Smith (Jessica) and Mary Lauren Smith; and his grandchildren, Ashlynn and Brooklyn Smith.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Wake County.
