He was predeceased by: his parents, Hayworth Cheek and Effie Moffitt Cheek; and his sister McCoy Gathings. He is survived by: his wife Joan Mauldin Cheek; his children, Tresa Hatchett (Tony) of Ramseur and Torris Cheek (Cierra) of Greensboro; his sisters, Annie Haith of Greensboro and Zula Matthews (Lonnie) of Ramseur; his siblings-in-law, Shirley Emerson, Cynthia Brooks (Larry), Sandra Mauldin, Felicia Mauldin, Hattie Marsh, Howard Miller and Tim Mauldin (Sherry); and his siblings' children, Vivian Siler and Charles Lennon "Buddy" Staley. He is also survived by other loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
