It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bishop James Buford Lanter of Rockingham, North Carolina, who passed away on June 4, 2025, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. Though Bishop James Buford may no longer walk beside us, his memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Bishop James Buford touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In his absence, his spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Lanter and Nellie Rose Boyles Lanter. He is survived by: his wife Doris Mitchell Lanter; his daughter Amy Stricklin (Jamie); his grandson Dakota Stricklin (Kristin); his great grandchild Easton James Stricklin; and his siblings, Clifton Lanter, Teresa Sharp, Harold Dean, Robert, Jr., Donald and Alma.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 10th 2025 from 10:45 AM to 11:45 AM at the Roc Church of God of Prophecy (139 Flowers St, Rockingham, NC 28379). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 10th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
