He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Pierce and Marie Howard Gibson; and his wife Yvonne Dunn Gibson. He is survived by: his children, Rhonda Gibson Simmons (Mike), Rodney Lee Gibson, Jr. (Hope), Shannon Gibson Stanley (Eric) and David Chadwick Gibson (Nikki); his grandchildren, Bridgett, Blair Simmons, Piper Goode, Corbin, Daegan and Sullivan Gibson; and his stepgranddaughter Lily Stanley.
