He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Edwards and Lois Rowe Edwards; his wife Nancy Batten Edwards; his son Kenneth Russell Edwards; and his granddaughter Kristy Edwards.

He is survived by: his children, Tim Edwards of Fayetteville, Diane Bryant (Bobby) of Rockingham, Brenda Burr (Mark) of Rockingham and Tami Rushing of Rockingham; his grandchildren, Jeanna Cloninger (Justin), Shannon Mabe (Jason), Rusty Edwards (Ashley), Maeghan Hunter (Luke), Colton Burr (Lindsey), Jonathan Rushing and Evan Rushing; his great grandchildren, Jaxon, Ayden, Ashton Mabe, Kyleigh, Bella, Kent Edwards, Ava Grace, Brenlee Cate Hunter, Paisley Cloninger and Charlotte Burr; and his siblings, Melvin Edwards, Bob Edwards, Henry Edwards, J. S. Edwards, Rose Peele, Betty Pharr and Jean Garner.
