Thornton, Jr. of North Wilkesboro, Ray Thornton of Sandford and Carolyn Stephenson of Texas; his grandson Zachary Thornton of Rockingham; and his nephews, David Thornton of Sandford and William "Buddy" King, Jr..
He is survived by: his wife Karen Rayfield Thornton; his sons, Wayne Thornton, Jr. (Tammy Looney), Chris Thornton (Stephanie) of Rockingham and Matt Thornton (Karen Graves); and his grandchildren, Taylor, Christian, Noah, Ayden, Nevaeh, Kaleigh, Kyng, Lendzii, Amelia, Amara, Aiden and Layla.
