He was predeceased by: his parents, David Rowan Smith and Lucy Jennings Smith; and his brothers, Timothy Smith, Gerald Smith and Michael Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Tammy Jones Smith; his children, David I. Smith (Sarah) and Tabitha Daniel (Matthew); his sister Carolyn Sue Phillips; and his grandchildren, Mason Lunsford, Brenden Smith, Talulah Daniel, Tristan Smith, Chase Smith and Mackenzie Smith. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM at the Powles Staton Funeral Home (913 W Main St, Rockwell, NC 28138). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
