We announce the death of Barbara Leonard Godwin in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, who passed away on September 18, 2026, at the age of 87. Barbara’s absence will be deeply felt by those who valued her companionship.
She was predeceased by: her husband Harvey M. Godwin; and her siblings, Johnnie Leonard, Ruby and Elizabeth Odham. She is survived by: her children, Ricky Riggan, Paula Mercer (Freddie), Cheryl Oliver (Mike), Harvey Godwin Jr. (Christal), Robbie Godwin (Phyllis) and Brian Godwin (Tatiana). She is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Sherwood Forest FWB Church (2601 Neuse Blvd, New Bern, NC 28562). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
