He was predeceased by : his wife Susan Bowden Hale; and his brothers, Horace Pat Hale and William Edward Hale, Jr.. He is survived by : his children, John Thomas Hale, Jr. (Karen) and Amy Hale Trussell (Jeremy); his grandchildren, Michael Coleman (Courrtney), Matthew Trussell, Sarah Trussell and John "Jay" Thomas Hale III; his great grandchild Kolton; his sister Brenda Pope; and his close friends, Eileen Riportella, Kent, Nan Ness, John and Cindy Mazierski.

Visitation was held on Monday, April 22nd 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Quinn McGowen Funeral Home (308 W Fremont St, Burgaw, NC 28425). A funeral service was held on Monday, April 22nd 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Monday, April 22nd 2024 at the Pike Creek Cemetery.
