As we bid adieu to Joe's earthly form, let us not dwell on the void left in his wake, but rather celebrate the legacy of love and inspiration Joe has bequeathed us. For though he may have departed from our sight, his spirit remains a timeless beacon, guiding loved ones through the labyrinth of life's journey.

He is survived by: his children, Tiwonda Johnson-Blount (James), Joe Gattis, Jr. and Joshua Gattis (Jessica); his former wife Joyce J. Gattis; and his grandchildren, Cierra Garrett, Sidney Blount, Jace Gattis, Aubree Gattis and Reece Gattis. He is also survived by other loving relatives and dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 10th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the New Red Mountain Missionary Baptist Church (1401 Red Mountain Rd, Rougemont, NC 27572). A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 10th 2025 at 2:30 PM at the same location.
