He was predeceased by: his parents, Jasper Thomas Carter and Annie Mae Rogers Carter; his wives, Betty Lou Clark Carter, Vera Carter, Ethel Carter and Janie Mae Carswell Carter; his children, Ronnie Carter, Donnie Carter and Doris Carter Wilson; his granddaughter Brandi Carter Magin; his siblings, Dorothy Rutter (Morris), Lydia Lowery (Bernice), Pauline Cole (Robert), Gwendolyn Hudson (Bubby), Marie Barker, Edward Carter, Wallace Carter (Caroline) and Raymond Carter (Mellissa); and his brother-in-law Billy Smith.
He is survived by: his son Douglas Edward "Doug" Carter (Tina); his sister Dean Carter Smith; his grandchildren, Krista Carter, Joshua Clayton and Brian Carter; his great grandchildren, Kaylee Magin, Melinda Melton, Nicholas Magin, Taylor Clayton and Harper Clayton; and his brother-in-law Walter Barker.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Strickland and Jones Memorial Funeral Services (1810 Durham Rd, Roxboro, NC 27573). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
