He was predeceased by: his parents, Golden Cornelius Bowes, Sr. and Jenny Bett Vicks Bowes; and his siblings, Lessie Bowes, Edith Bowes, Doris Smith, Margie Wilburn, Ellen Hall, Mary Alice Bowes, James Bowes and Roy Bowes.

He is survived by: his spouse Shirley Virginia Clayton Bowes; his children, Terri B. Palmer (Ricky) of Roxboro, NC, Jesse C. "Connie" Bowes, Jr. (Maria) of Belmont, NC, Jeff T. Bowes (Melinda) of Roxboro, NC and Lori B. Carroll (Jon) of Carolina Beach, NC; his brother Golden Cornelius "J. B." Bowes, Jr. of Alton, VA; and his brother-in-law Wallace Clayton.
