She was predeceased by: her husband Wharton Winstead; her children, Merritt Winstead and Betsy Winstead Allen; her granddaughter Libby Winstead; her siblings, John H. Merritt, Jr., William Joseph Merritt, Ellen Coxe Merritt Kane and Nancy Merritt Allen; and her parents, Dr. John H. Merritt and Ellen Belle Coxe.

She is survived by: her children, Jo Catharine Winstead and Wharton Winstead, Jr. (Kathryn); her grandchildren, Beth, Sim and John; and her great grandchildren, Cameron, Nicholas, Emma, Siena and Charley.

Due to the risks of Covid infections, there will be no services or visitations at this time; a memorial service is planned for a later date.
