With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Zelma Thornton (Roxboro, North Carolina), who passed away on December 10, 2023 at the age of 86. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Lucious Hayes and Pearlie Bass Hayes; her son Dennis Brooks; and her brothers, Elmer Hayes (Lillie Mae Bass), Darnell Hayes and Lonzie Hayes.
She is survived by: her husband James Thornton; her children, Carol Brooks-Jackson of Richmond, Virginia and Burke Brooks (Iva) of Warrenton; her grandchildren, Justin, Jordan Jackson of Richmond, Evan Brooks of Cincinnati and Brianna Brooks of Charlotte; her sister Thelma Thornton of Oxford; and her stepchildren, Teresa Thornton of Oxford, Sharon Thornton-Wilkes (Rodney) of High Point, LaMorris Thornton of Jamestown and James Lamont Thornton of Oxford. She is also survived by fourteen step-grandchildren and twelve step-great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
