He was predeceased by: his parents, Homer Columbus Dowell and Pansy Estelle Pardue Dowell; his wife Oda Faye Dowell; his children, Brenda Mabe, Kathy Dowell, Daniel Gray Dowell, Jr. and Howard Dowell; his great grandchildren, Kristina Mabe and Brandon Mabe; and his siblings, Harvey Dowell, Russell Dowell, Grady Dowell, Paul Dowell, Mickey Dowell and Dorothy Lane.

He is survived by: his children, June (Sedoris), Diane Tugman (Jim), Darlene Ray (Warren), Amber Hege, Richard Dowell (Mary) and James Naylor. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
