He was predeceased by : his parents, Jerry Lee Waddell and Marion Poteat Waddell; his son Michael Waddell; and his siblings, Ellen Westbrook and Dean Waddell.

He is survived by : his son Tarheel of North Carolina; his wife Lynn Johnson Waddell; his sons, Eric Waddell (J. J.) of Green Creek and Scott Waddell (Briana) of Forest City; and his grandchildren, Reagan Liles (Garrett), Claudia Shields (Mason), Grant Waddell, Harrison Waddell and Lydia Waddell.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 23rd 2024 from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at the New Hope Methodist Church (4251 Chesnee Rd, Rutherfordton, NC 28139). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 23rd 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Tuesday, April 23rd 2024 at the New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery (4251 Chesnee Rd, Rutherfordton, NC 28139).
