We announce the death of Morton Charles Rathbone of Rutherfordton, North Carolina, who passed away on August 19, 2026, at the age of 88. Morton will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Merritt Rathbone and Ruth Rathbone. He is survived by: his wife Sharon Rathbone; his children, Steve Rathbone (Kathleen), Christine Rathbone-Santosky (late Spencer) and Donna Sand; his grandchildren, Brenna Rathbone, Devon Rathbone, Mikayla Fulton (Eric Waddell), Jacob Sand (Amanda), Abigail Sand and Nathaniel Sand; and his great grandchildren, Lesley and Alexa. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
