He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd James Gearhart and Pearl Atkins Gearhart; his wife Sherril Gearhart; and his children, Jennifer Ann Plemmons and David Gearhart.
He is survived by: his children, James Carling, III and Patricia Fields (Don) of Salisbury; his siblings, Glenn Gearhart (Sharon) of Huntington Beach, CA, James Gearhart and Ann Gearhart; his grandchildren, Bryan, James, Abigail, Patience, Delila and Peyton; and his great grandchild May.
A graveside service was held on Monday, September 22nd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Salisbury National Cemetery (501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 28144).
