He is survived by: his children, Michelle Hammill of Richfield, NC, Holly Smith (Brian) of Salisbury, NC and Aaron Messer (Ginna) of Durham, NC; his grandchildren, Logan Hammill, Savannah Messer, Ethan Barber, Luke Smith and Owen Smith; and his brother Vergil Messer (Pat).
