She was predeceased by: her parents, William Stephens and Trudy Lawson Stephens; her husband John Junior Lawson; her siblings, Ernest, Curtis, Cecil, Ray, Ivan Stephens and Elaine Stephens Smith; and her sister-in-law Mary Lawson Simmons.

She is survived by: her daughter Karen; her son-in-law Jerry Lawrence; her son Nolan; her daughter-in-law Kim Lawson; her grandchildren, Chris Lawrence (Emma), Jennifer Sisk (Brandon), Nico Lawson (Alex) and Ashley Avis (Charles); and her great grandchildren, Olivia, Henry Sisk, Hutcherson, Thomas, Hattie Lawrence and Theodore Avis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Retired Teachers' Scholarship Fund of Stokes County or Snow Hill Methodist Church.
