He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Kaiser Ayers and Florence McGehee Ayers; and his siblings, Clifton B. Ayers and Judy Margaret Vick. He is survived by: his wife Peggy Yarborough Ayers; his children, James Ayers (Shawn'e) of Sanford, NC, Wayne Ayers (Rhonda) of Sanford, NC, Gene Ayers (Kelli) of Sanford, NC and Bobbie Kay Taylor (Dawson) of Cameron, NC; his siblings, Clayton Eugene Ayers (Edna) of Sanford, NC and Linda Carol Parker of Sanford, NC; his grandchildren, Paula Cramer, Bryan Ayers, Ryan Smith, Ross Womack and Jeriann Womack; and his great grandchildren, Kayleigh Barnwell, Levi Bryant, Liam Bryant, Eden Bryant and Jonathon Smith. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Sunday, November 2nd 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home (600 W Main St, Sanford, NC 27332). A funeral service was held on Monday, November 3rd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Solid Rock Community Church (989 White Hill Rd, Sanford, NC 27332).
