He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Robert and Wilma Maney Smith; his wife Carolyn Sheppard Smith; and his son Richard Dale Smith. He is survived by: his daughter Lisa Shearer (Rick) of Sanford; his grandson Logan Shearer (Sarah); his great grandchildren, Lexie and Dylan; and his sibling's children, Cindy Ashe (Harold), Lora Kann (Steve), Terry Smith, Mike Smith (Linda), Jack Ball (Trina) and Jimmie Ball.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 4th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Lemon Springs United Methodist Church (7225 Lemon Springs Rd, Sanford, NC 27332).
