He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Paul and Beulah Howlett Wheatley; his sister June Safrit; his nephew Leon Safrit; and his grandchildren, Jaycee and Blake.
He is survived by: his significant other Francene; his cocker spaniels, Echo and Winston; and his children, Jack W. Wheatley, Jr. (Tilly) of Fayetteville, Michael Dean Wheatley of Lawrenceville, GA and Sherry Wheatley Johnson of Ladson, SC. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
