She was predeceased by : her parents, Lee Ward Sr. and Beulah Vaughan Ward; her husband Playford Jefferson Friend; her son David Lynn Friend; her siblings, Kenneth Ward, Garvey Ward, Lee Ward Jr., Eddie Ward, Betty Weiss, Pat Moore and Virginia Wolbert; and her cousin Ruth Ward.

She is survived by : her children, Brian Friend (Karen) of Kenly and Tonya; her friend Selma; her grandsons, Dylan Parrish of Raleigh and Matthew; and her siblings, Denny Ward of Tennessee, David Ward of Tennessee, Ricky Ward of Tennessee, Dorothy Barker of New Jersey, Norma Ross of Tennessee, Lois Lilly of New Jersey, Carolyn Saul of New Jersey and JoAnn Morrison of North Carolina. She is also survived by her family, from helping in raising her brothers and sisters, her own children.
