He was predeceased by: his parents, James Brown Minnis, Sr. and Frances "Wicker" Minnis Moore; and his siblings, James Brown Minnis and Frankie Broadhead. He is survived by: his wife Brenda Carver Minnis; his children, Alecia Neville (Tim) of Burlington, Gene Wolfe (Jane) of Roxboro and Robert Odell "Robby" Minnis Jr. of Chapel Hill; his sisters, Marie Sturdivant (Larry) of Chapel Hill and Faye Stephens; and his stepsiblings, John Moore, Janise Moore, Joan Haynes (Ernie) and Billie Delaney (Mike). He is also survived by four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
