He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Richardson and Ruth Richardson; his children, Jeff Richardson and Debbie Helms; and his siblings, Allen Richardson, John Richardson, Roger Richardson, Betty Lou Jones and Erma Dean Graybeal.

He is survived by: his wife Betty Richardson; his children, Chris Helms of New London, NC, Torry Helms of Cherryville, NC and Diane Smith of Catawba, NC; and his siblings, Bill Richardson of Gastonia, NC and Nancy Eldreth of North Wilkesboro, NC. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
