He is survived by: his parent Estilla McSwain Washburn; his wife Billie Falls Washburn; his children, Gene "Rusty" Washburn Jr (Yvetta) of Rutherfordton, Charlene Washburn of Belmont and Sherry Washburn O'Shields (Brian) of Shelby; his sister Raye Scism of Lattimore; and his grandchildren, Corey Washburn, Sammie Washburn, Eastman O'Shields and Carmen O'Shields.
