He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Pinkney and Bettsie Martin Blanton; his children, John Richard Blanton (Lindsey) and Susan Marie Coyle; and his sons-in-law, Ray Cline and Sammy Coyle.
He is survived by: his wife Thelma Goforth Blanton; and his children, Jerry Blanton (Rosalyn), Debra Hoppes, Sandra Cline and Steven "Stevie" Blanton. He is also survived by four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
