He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Penny and Carolina Penny; his siblings, Herman, Garneil, Warren (Jack) and Myrtle; and his friend Bennie Sanders.
He is survived by: his wife Jane Penny of Selma, NC; his son Nathaniel Penny Jr. (Nancy) of Bridgewater, NJ; his granddaughters, Ashley Penny (Terron) of South Plainfield, NJ and Stephanie Penny of Lithia Springs, Georgia; his great grandchild Isaiah Penny of South Plainfield, NJ; his godson Stephen Ray; his sisters, Doris Dickson of Selma, NC and Gladys Penny (Charles); his siblings-in-law, Mamie Pearl McCray of Wilson, NC, Barbara Grantham of Gardner, NC, John Grantham of Greenbelt, MD, Elijah Grantham and Hyattsville; and his cousin Sarah Dunn. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
