He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Glenn Shimer and Thelma Mary Shimer (Guy); and his brothers, Herbert "Butch" Shimer and Raymond Shimer. He is survived by: his children, Misty Hayes, Robert "Bobby" Shimer II and Richard Shimer; and his sister Beverly Reynolds. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 28th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory (2205 S Church St, Burlington, NC 27215). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 29th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Lowe Funeral Home (2205 S Church St, Burlington, NC 27215).
