He was predeceased by: his parents, Tommie Garner and Louise Garner; his wife Jean Edwards Garner; his brother Frankie Garner; and his sister-in-law Faye Garner.
He is survived by: his daughter Dawn Garner Stroud (John) of Kinston, NC; his grandchildren, Dr. Dusk Stroud (Katie) of Seven Springs, NC, Smith Stroud (Caroline) of Kinston, NC, Landon Stroud (Bethany) of Kinston, NC and Johnna Stroud of Kinston, NC; his great grandchildren, Garner Stroud and Sloane Stroud of Seven Springs, NC.; his nephews, Jimmy Garner and Thomas Garner of Pine Level, NC; and his siblings-in-law, Betty Pharr of Charlotte, NC, J. S. Edwards (Shirley) of Lee's Summit, Bob Edwards (Phyllis) of Princeton, NC and Henry Edwards (Ira) of La Grange, NC..
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 22nd 2026 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the First Baptist Church (509 Kingold Blvd, Snow Hill, NC 28580). A graveside service was held on Friday, January 23rd 2026 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the Grace Baptist Church Cemetery (220 Barden St, Princeton, NC 27569).
