He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse H. "Bud" Taylor and Rachel Harper Taylor; his grandparents, Daniel, Mattie Murphy Taylor, Albert and Lillie Mae Carraway Harper; and his stepfather Algar Outlaw.

He is survived by: his wife Kay Dudley Taylor; his daughters, Katharine Taylor Rouse of Kinston and Michelle Rae Cupp (Donald) of Holly Ridge; his grandchildren, James Taylor Gilbert, William Travis Rouse (Neftali Cuello) and Katharine Olivia Rouse; and his brother Steve Taylor. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren.
