He was predeceased by : his parents, William Warren Bentley, Sr. and Florence McLain Bentley; his grandparents, Obey Dean and Grace Greene Bentley; his wife Lucy Olivia Pardue Bentley; his brother James Herman Bentley; and his nephew Dean Bentley.
He is survived by : his daughter Alicia Bentley Shelton of Apex, NC; his grandchildren, Merrick William Max Kemp of Charlottesville, VA and Lucy Macrae Kirkman Shelton of Apex, NC; his close friend Marilyn Osborne Payne of Wilkesboro; his brother Charles Dean Bentley (Molly) of Wilmington, NC; his nieces and nephews, Lee Bentley, Scott Caudill, Bonnie Caudill and Rebecca Smith; his cousin Sam Pennell (Jolly); and also Laurel Smith. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
