She was predeceased by: her parents, Ernest Adams and Janie Register Adams; her son Harleigh D. Ellis; and her siblings, Braxton Adams, Janice Adams Young, Tharrell D. Adams and Michael Adams.

She is survived by: her son Tony R. Ellis Jr.; her siblings, Ruth Adams Hickmon of Jacksonville, Roger Adams (Vivian) of Fayetteville and Susan Adams Warren (Lee) of Fayetteville; her grandchildren, Ciara Ellis Crane (Zack) of Lillington, Sandie Jo Ellis and William "Woody" Ellis; and her great grandchildren, Harvey, Naomi and Cecilia Crane.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cumberland County Animal Shelter in honor of Jo's lifelong compassion for animals.
