He was predeceased by : his parents, Jessie Hoover and Helen Murphy Hoover; his son Eddie Hoover; and his siblings, Emma Don "Donna" Robinson, Alice Wyatt, Edna Hoover, Clifton "Bud" Hoover, David Hoover, Daniel Hoover and Rickey Hoover.

He is survived by : his children, Melissa Autrey (Ronnie) of Estill Springs, TN, Scott Hoover of North Wilkesboro and Sherry Lynn Hoover of Asheville; his daughter-in-law Pamela Hoover of Claremont; his grandchildren, Tyler, Brooke, Dillon Autrey, William, Madelyn and Eric Hoover; his great grandchildren, Destiny, Brooklyn and Estelle Hoover; his siblings, Mary Wilma McCall of Swannanoa, Hazel Roberts of Bald Creek and Dennis Hoover (Jean) of Lincolnton; and his sister-in-law Carla Hoover of Bakersville. He is also survived by Several step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
