He was predeceased by: his parents, Lewis Gurley and Kate Stewart Gurley; his wife Carolyn Young Gurley; his daughter Angela Marie Gurley; and his siblings, Daniel Gurley, Louise Burleson and Doris Burleson.
He is survived by: his family Gun Smoke; his sons, Christopher Gurley (Heather Kerner) of Mooresville, NC and Tracy Gurley (Malinda Shepherd) of Bakersville; his granddaughter Courtney Street (Aaron) of Spruce Pine; and his sister Joyce Boone (Homer) of Estatoe.
