He is survived by: his wife Ruth Helen Hughes; his son Michael Dean Hughes Sr. (Alba Gaye) of Spruce Pine; and his grandchildren, Michael Dean Hughes Jr. of Spruce Pine and Jennifer Michelle Arnett (Eric) of Spruce Pine. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends.
