He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred McKinney and Nina Biddix McKinney; his former wife Mary Sue Bennet Mckinney; his son Curtis Ray Mckinney; and his sisters, Patsy Stroud and Carol McKinney.
He is survived by: his wife Karen Greene McKinney; his sons, Rick McKinney (Kristie) of Bakersville and Neil McKinney (Kasida) of Lincolnton; his siblings, Ted McKinney (Kathy) of Spruce Pine, Dennis McKinney (Renee) of Spruce Pine and Linda Parlier of Morganton; his grandchildren, Chase McKinney, Lauren McKinney, Kailyn McKinney, Keaton McKinney and Isabella McKinney; and his great grandchildren, Aiden and Grayson.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 14th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Grassy Creek Memorial Gardens (128 Roan Rd, Spruce Pine, NC 28777).
