He was predeceased by : his former life partner Helen Trivett Collis; his parents, Thad Collis and Ruby Collis; and his siblings, Bobby Collis, Betty Jean Stotts, Mary Sue Collis, Elaine Collis and Roger Collis.

He is survived by : his wife Patricia McKinney Collis; his children, Susan Collis Henderson (Greg) of Morganton, NC, Lori Collis Hall (Randy) of Spruce Pine, NC and Mark Collis (Michelle) of Mount Holly, NC.; and his siblings, Leon Collis (Faye) of Gastonia, NC and Sarah Stump (Charlie) of Winston Salem, NC..
