It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Vara Alice Sheppard (Stedman, North Carolina), who passed away on February 15, 2025, at the age of 81, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Leon Fillyaw and Vernie Fillyaw; her daughter Louise Stephens; her grandson Marius Hathaway; and her sister Agnes Tally.
She is survived by: her children, Douglas Stephens III (Rhonda), Phyllis Smith (David), Keith Sheppard (Ilana), Angela Gilmore (Tracy) and Nathan Sheppard (Kayla); her grandchildren, Benjamin Smith, Douglas Stephens IV (Kathryn), DeLance Stephens, Darren Stephens, Kevin Sheppard, Branson Sheppard, Jason Hathaway (Brandy), Jameson Walton, Noah Walton, Ashley Miller (Steven), Kristen Wilson (Steven), Brigette Stephens, Arianna Starr (Kaeden), Bailey Small (Brady) and Delanie Gilmore; her great grandchildren, Henry, Jameson, Douglas V, Jacob, Margaret, Rose and Gracie; and her brother Arthur Fillyaw.
