He was predeceased by: his mother Mary Rose Herring Holbrook; his stepfather J. Van Holbrook; his father Lester Lee Carter Jr.; his stepmother Dr. Athelene Payne Carter; his brother James Lee Carter; his brother-in-law James Kevin Iddings; and his close friend Lady Bug.

He is survived by: his sister Julie Carter Iddings; his niece Kristin Iddings (Jay); his nephew Cody Iddings of Greensboro, NC.; his stepsiblings, Suzanne Mincarcine (Bob) of Macon, GA and Robert Marlowe of Greensboro, NC; and his cousins, Karla Griffin of Seven Springs, NC., Kelly Griffin of Seven Springs, NC. and Allie Price of Seven Springs, NC..
