Ruth Lillian Penland Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ruth Lillian Penland of Swannanoa, North Carolina, who passed away on May 22, 2025, at the age of 106, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Edney Ford and Bessie Sluder Ford; her husband George Arthur Penland; her sons, Jerry Ford Penland and Joe David Penland Sr.; and her siblings, Wayne Ford, Rex Ford, Leonard Ford and Lois Mumpower.
She is survived by: her son James (Jim) Penland (Linda); her sister Sue Crittenden of Chelsea; her daughters-in-law, Janice Penland and Terri Penland; and her grandchildren, LaDonna Sluder (Lawrence), Leslie Penland, Jeff Penland (Cathy), Anthony Penland (Cindy), Michele Smith (Bill), Keith Penland (Christi), Joe David Penland Jr. (Rhea), Jimmy Penland Jennifer (Tanya) and Jason Penland (Shelly). She is also survived by 20 Great Grandchildren, 21 Great – Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held on Saturday, May 24th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM and on Sunday, May 25th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A funeral service was held on Saturday, May 24th 2025 at 2:30 PM and on Sunday, May 25th 2025 at 2:00 PM. A burial was held on Sunday, May 25th 2025 at the Oak Forest United Methodist Church (990 Oak Forest Rd, Hayesville, NC 28904).
