He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil Mathis and Icelene Brown Mathis; his siblings, Blanche Mathis and Leoda Mathis; his niece Joi Mathis; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Keyshawn and Isiah Cornelius Johnson; and his granddaughter Amaya Grace Mathis.
He is survived by: his wife Linda Prince Mathis; his daughters, Kimberly Mathis Pitts (Wayne), Natisha Mathis Andrews (Chad) and Lindsay Mathis Mason (John); and his siblings, Bonnie Melton of Jackson County, Mary Brown of Jackson County, Debbie Allison of Jackson County and Dennis Mathis of Haywood County. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the Appalachian Funeral Services (165 Skyland Dr, Sylva, NC 28779). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 17th 2026 at 1:30 PM at the same location.
